Shepherds Hut - P&C Tour
A cheeky little Motorbike tour to South Wales for two of the intrepid bikers P&C. Destination for three nights; Pyllauduon Luxury Shepherds Hut in Tregaron overlooking the Cambrian Mountains and surrounded by nothing!! Absolute peace and tranquility.
Combined ride...
Day 1 -102 miles
To get down to the hut we took the A483 and turned off to go to Newtown via the more winding A495 and going straight on at Tregynon - well worth it. Rewarded with some great stretches of road and no traffic.
Lunch on Newtown was a let down - chips were crap and we will not be going there again. Can't remember the place, but will update as soon as I do.
Having not complained we left to go to Devils Bridge via the A44 - now this is a road that must be ridden. Beautiful countryside and sweeping winding bends. Surface superb and virtually no traffic around.
Arrived for a nice cup of coffee at the railway station cafe....
We then carried on down to Tregaron with the wind on our tails and swept the bends on the B4343. arrived at our destination and cooked a great steak on the BBQ and sunk a few much deserved beers...
Day 2 - 104 miles
Meeting Toby back at Devils Bridge for a ride out to New Quay. Set off early to have a coffee on the promenade in Aberyswyth. Beautiful Blue sky has just arrived.
Out on the A485 which is an excellent road to ride and then to Borth on the B4572 - watch out for the steep descent into Borth. Stunning beach and views.
Borth beach was empty, although it was pretty early in the morning.
Travelled back to devils Bridge on the A44 and met up for a coffee back at the railway station cafe.
Onward to New Quay taking the A4120 and the A487 down the coast road. Arrived in New Quay to have a gorgeous lunch at the Blue Bistro overlooking the harbour. It was stifling but just great to be out in such great conditions.
Winding B roads back to Lampeter where a Peroni was called for in the local establishment. Boiling hot still; road back to Tregaron down the A485 being chased by a Porsche. We were just too quick for him haha!!!
Bought food and BBQ'd whilst Toby set up his one man tent for the night - rain started, but we din't care as the day had been glorious. Just played music all night and enjoyed the beer, food and company.
Day 3 - 160 miles
This was a very big day. We had plans to have lunch at "The Shed" in Porthgain and then go to St David's but didn't think that we'd carry on quite so far. It was sunny, the roads were just amazing, with long sweeping bends; fast fast fast!!! (not over the limit obviously!)
Taking the A475 from Lampeter down to Newcastle Emlyn, A484 to Cenarth and then this is a MUST for any biker - the B4332. Oh yes yes yes!!!!!
Picking up the main A487, through Fishguard and out to Porthgain to have our King Prawns and then John Dory and chips in The Shed.
Yes she did eat the whole lot!!! It was well worth a visit to this restaurant and sample the freshly caught fish Yum Yum - www.theshedporthgain.co.uk/
Leaving Porthgain, we had a lovely ride to St Davids for an ice cream and then onward to Haverfordwest, via the B4390. A much better B road to ride. Picking up the A40 to St Clears and then turning off on the B4229 all the way to Carmarthen. Spectacular road and a must do again!!
Headed back up the A485 to Lampeter and remind me NOT to do this road again, as it's full of 30; 40 and 50 mph zones all the way up. Very frustrating :(
Another ride back to Tregaron for a much deserved beer and BBQ - night night, very tired.
Day 4 - Homeward bound 185 miles
We decided to take a winding roads home and take all day. What a fantastic day. After an excellent freshly cooked home made breakfast at Y Talbot Hotel - www.ytalbot.com we took the mountain road toward Abergwesyn from Tregaron. Views are spectacular roads are winding and there are a couple of 1:4 drops which get the adrenaline flowing. Not fast by any stretch of the imagination but a real treat.
Head towards Beulah and then up the B4358 to Newbridge on Wye and Llandrindod Wells. yep, you've guessed - excellent choice of road. Then it gets better; Instead of going up the main rod to Newport, which would be the case for us, head toward Knighton on the A488 and take the B4367 to Bishops Castle. Always worth a pint there. Beautiful little village.
We chose to head North then across toward Shrewsbury, turning off on a single lane track the B4393 and go over the mountain to Four Crosses - not for the faint hearted and you don't really get out of 2nd gear, but a great experience.
To finish our little tour, we wearily headed up the A483 and stopped for a customary drink at the Golden Lion - https://www.thegoldenlionrossett.co.uk
You won't get a better pub!!!
End of Tour
